Wow, what a great first swap of 2012! From the looks of it, I think that everyone enjoyed themselves and went home with many delightful goodies. Thanks again to Ryan of R&R Coffee Café
for opening up his café and for making many delicious beverages to fortify us before, during, and after swapping!
As many of you already know, this swap was my last as organizer. This past year has been a really incredible learning experience on so many levels, and I'm happy to have met so many creative and talented people through the swaps. Not only does everyone constantly amaze and inspire me, but it makes me happy to see people connecting. That's one of my favorite things about the swaps! I've said this before and I'll say it again: the success of each swap has only been possible because all of your enthusiasm and participation. None of this would have happened without all of your support, so thank you! Have no fear because the wheels are going to continue to turn with the next phase of Pikes Peak Community Cupboard. More information on that soon!!
I took some quick shots with my phone below. I'm just sorry I didn't get good shots of all of the amazing things that everyone brought! I guess you'll just have to go to the next swap to see for yourself. :)
Thanks again for coming out and I'll see you sometime at a future swap!-Kat
On Sunday we had our last swap of 2011 and we decided to make it a potluck so that everyone could mingle a bit longer after swapping. Thanks again to Lindsey, The Goat Cheese Lady
, and husband Herbert for hosting us! I can't think of a more wonderful location for our last swap. It's been almost a year since our first swap and I'm amazed with how much Pikes Peak Community Cupboard has grown. It's wonderful to see new people each time and to see regulars who are now friends. Thank you all so much again for being so enthusiastic and supportive of this community event! It could not have been as successful and fun as it is without all of you. It's been a real treat to get to know you all through Facebook, Twitter and email too. I look forward to keeping in touch, even if we'll be taking a break!
Thanks, of course, to Wendy for helping me spread the word about our events. So here are the photos I took, so many amazing things once again. The potluck was absolutely delicious as well, you are all so talented in the kitchen! Happy Holidays and see you soon!-Kat
Believe it or not, I didn't get that many shots during Sunday's swap! The lighting wasn't optimal, plus... I was just talking to everyone too much. Ha! So, on the left is a photo of all the wonderful things I was able to swap for. Thanks so much to Marika's Coffee House in Manitou Springs
for letting us use their space for this swap! The turn out was amazing. Everyone had a really great time and commented on how lovely this location was. Thanks to Leslie of Crunchy Betty
for being our special guest host! As always, many thanks to our lovely co-organizer Wendy for helping. Our swaps having been going on since late March of this year and I can see friendships continuing to grow after each swap. I love seeing familiar faces and hugging everyone, and this time there were quite a few new participants!
Thank you all again for making these swaps so successful, but more importantly... SO FUN! Anyway, our next swap is scheduled for Sunday December 11 and Lindsey (The Goat Cheese Lady) has invited us to have a swap at her place! This will also be a potluck, which is optional if you can only stay for the swap. Be on the look out for RSVP emails, with more information, at the end of November.
In January, we will be taking a break... but we will be discussing future plans for swaps in 2012. So, I hope to see you in December!Cheers,Kat
It was nice to have a swap again after taking a bit of a break! Thanks to Melissa Marts and Donna Ross at Care and Share
for hosting us once again. Thanks also to everyone who came out to to join the fun. We had a nice group at the swap and we met a few new people as well! The swaps for November and December are being planned, so be on the lookout for RSVP emails!
Wendy and I are looking forward to them and we hope you are too.I decided to shoot with my camera phone today, so here are a few photos from the swap!-Kat
Yesterday evening was incredible and I know Wendy and I have thanked everyone who made this possible over and over... but... THANK YOU all again. The best part about all of this is seeing how much everyone enjoyed themselves. It's been 6 months in planning and to see it all finally come to life was beyond magical. I'm still in awe and wondering if it really happened! Ha. There are very few times when I decide to put my camera down and just absorb an event. Last night was one of those times, so I only took a few shots. Wendy and I wanted to see the points of view of everyone who attended. If you would like to see more photographs or post your own
, please upload them on the Colorado Springs Community Alliance site!Much love you to all, to everyone who has been beyond supportive near and far.
My husband is home for R&R so I'll be spending this next week with him before he deploys again. Planning the next swap will come soon after! Thank you for your patience and understanding.-Kat
Thanks so much to everyone who came out to the swap yesterday! Even though it was a hot day out, it was a fun time and I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves. Thanks again to Care & Share
for hosting us, especially to Donna Ross who came early to help me set up AND brought some much needed iced water for everyone! I also really appreciate the extra swap tags that some of you printed out and of course the wonderful food donations for Care and Share
. If you haven't heard, this was our last swap before the Community Dinner on September 25th.
We're planning our next swap to be sometime in October and I'll keep you updated on when and where! If any of you have suggestions on a swap location, please don't hesitate to contact me!
It was lovely to meet some new friends this time around and of course it was great to see everyone mingle and catch up. This was the first time that Wendy and I weren't able to say much before the swapping began, everyone was raring to go! Awesome. Thanks again to everyone for all of your constant support and enthusiasm! These swaps would not be possible without all of your participation and amazing talents. I always look forward to these swaps and I hope that you all enjoy yourselves when you come to an event. Here are just a few photos that I took, enjoy!-Kat
we had another fantastic swap this time at my favorite place to get coffee - R&R Coffee Café
! Thanks so much to Ryan, not only for hosting and opening on a Sunday, but for manning the coffee and drink bar so that everyone could sample delicious thirst quenchers. As usual, the variety of items that people brought was mind boggling. It always seems like I never bring enough to swap because I wanted just about everything! Also, not only did a lot of regulars
show up but there were a lot of new people. It's always nice to put a name to a face, especially when you've chatted either via email, Facebook or Twitter.Preparations for the Community Dinner
are going well, but soon we'll have to start placing orders for things like tableware, beverages, a surprise gift for donors, etc. If you haven't done so already, please RSVP as soon as you can here
! We are still accepting donations as well, so if you can give please click here
. Wendy and I are so grateful for the enthusiasm and support from everyone so far. There is also a Community Forum
on the Colorado Springs Community Alliance
website so that people can start sharing their ideas and what they are thinking of bringing to the dinner. Please be sure to check that out as well! This is your dinner, and it's up to all of us to make it fun!Wendy and I always have a great time at the swaps and we always hope that everyone else does as well! We're shooting for Sunday August 28th,
2-4pm to be the date of the next meet, but we'll of course let you know when we have solid information on date and location.Below are some photographs that I took. See you at the next swap!-Kat
Yesterday afternoon we had a wonderful swap at Care and Share Food Bank
. This was our first time visiting the facility and I think it was the first time for many of the folks that came yesterday. Wendy and I want to thank Melissa Marts and Donna Ross for all of their help and enthusiasm! It was wonderful to see all of the food donations that people brought with them to the swap. One of our goals is to encourage giving back to the community in any way that we can, so having the swap at this wonderful organization was perfect!
After yesterday's swap, we got a tour of the gardens at Care and Share
. They have an amazing facility and are doing so many wonderful things. If you haven't gone to visit yet, take time one of these days to see it for yourself and learn more about them!Speaking of giving back to the community, if you haven't heard already we are also organizing a community potluck dinner on September 25th, which aligns with the end of Colorado Springs Local Food Week. We have a Kickstarter page set up, so please take a moment to learn more about this community powered event and Colorado Springs Community Alliance. We are currently looking for great location for this event along with everything else that needs to be provided (music, beverages, etc) but ultimately the success of this event is up to all of you, the community! Thank you so much to all our generous backers and local business sponsor, TAPAteria, so far.One more thing, we'd also like to thank Teresa Farney of the Gazette for writing such a great story about our swap recently. If you haven't seen that yet, check it out here!
As usual, I tried my best to take as many photos as I could! I was having a great time chatting with everyone and looking at all the amazing things that were brought!
Thank you all so much for coming to our swaps, it's always fantastic to meet so many new people and to see familiar faces as well. We are thrilled when everyone has a great time, that's the best part! We hope to see you at the next swap! Info on that here
Yesterday's swap at Rustic Sunflower Farm
was so much fun! Thank you so much Lena and Luis Macias for hosting us for the second time. Thanks to everyone who drove out and as always, I hope that everyone had as much fun as we did.
What an amazing variety of items that were brought and it's always fantastic to meet new people and to catch up with friends. We're hoping to get a location soon for the next swap, which will be after 4th of July weekend. Stay tuned for more information on that!If you weren't at the swap yesterday and haven't heard yet, Wendy and I have launched our first Kickstarter project -Colorado Springs Community Dinner- and hope that people in the community will be as excited as we are about it.
This outdoor dinner is open to any resident of Colorado Springs, but space will be limited! It's up to all of us to make this a success, an unconditional, mutual gift to one another. We will take donations and note those who have given, but this will not be a sponsored event. This is a fully community-powered event. We will each be responsible for the amazing turn out!Wendy and I have been talking about a community powered potluck dinner for a while now, so please click here for more information. We are also proud to introduce
the Colorado Springs Community Alliance
, a new non-profit organization! CSCA's mission is to provide the residents of Colorado Springs with opportunities to engage with each other, support locally owned businesses, educate residents about local food and support innovative, small community projects. Thanks again to everyone who makes our swaps so fun and successful. For us it's all about community, meeting new friends, and hopefully inspiring others to share their knowledge and skills. I was a little more distracted than usual at yesterday's swap, so I didn't take as many photos and missed a few items. Sorry about that! See you at the next swap.-Kat
Mile High Swappers
had their second swap
and I went up to photograph the event and to finally meet organizer, Eve Orenstein. The swap was held at lovely Isabelle Farm
in Lafayette and being in the middle of the swapping buzz made me even more excited about our upcoming swap
! At the swap I was also reminded that even though we have a request for donations on our website,
I want to remind and encourage you to bring a non-perishable canned food item to the next swap. Our goal is not only to encourage friendships, but also help give back to the community in any small way that we can. Please be sure to RSVP soon and we hope to see you on June 26th at Rustic Sunflower Farm!-Kat
